Descriptive Essay About My Grandma - 765 Words

My Grandma Death. Something everyone deals with in their life. It’s the end of your story. People handle death in many different ways, from completely losing it, to it not affecting them at all. For me death hit very hard. I had never experienced the death of a loved one until my Grandpa had past. I was never close with my Grandpa but seeing him in that hospital bed that he wasn’t going to leave really upset me. This was the first death in my family. It was a horrible event but the death that has really affected me to this day was when his wife, my grandma, passed away. I wake up on a wonderful Saturday morning. It’s the middle of summer and the sun is shining through my window right into my eyes. I wake up and get ready for the day. She said when it burst it will kill her instantly and she won’t feel a single thing. It’s what she wanted. Sadly, this did not happen. She lived for 5 more day until she passed away. There was one point after her aneurism burst that she became conscious. She had one thing to say. â€Å"They lied.† My Grandma always had a very weird sense of humor. When my family heard her say this, we knew that she was still there. What affected me the most when my Grandma passed was that it happened so abruptly. One weekend I’m playing games with her and planning the next weekend. The next weekend I’m seeing her on her death bed. I have so many memories of playing games with her but I feel like I never spent enough time with her. I never got to know her how I wish I could have. I wanted to learn more about her childhood and how she met my Grandpa but it’s too late. As a kid, I felt like she would be around forever and when I grow up I will learn more about her. I didn’t know death was so real. Her passing has helped me realize something. I realized that family will always be there for you but they won’t be here forever. Impression Management approach to Public Relations: New or Old? According to L’ Etang (2007), Impression Management in the past appeared to be a tactic of manipulation in Public Relations. As the theory governs a process to construct an image, PR practitioners were accused of being image makers who use symbols or messages to control how the organization is perceived (Grunig, 1993, p. 125). How I Lost My First Job Critical Thinking Examples

It was one afternoon when I was alone in the shop alone. My boss was out of her office in a meeting within town and my colleagues were out to make deliveries to our distributors outside the town. It was just after high school and was working for Jewelry Company in my hometown. I was barely one month old in the company, and that day had been asked just to take of everything. In that afternoon, a customer walked in to the mall straight to our shop and asked for an engagement ring. Having surveyed the variety of rings in the shop, he selected one diamond ring that price tag had been defaced. He asked about its price. Enthusiastic to sell the ring, though not sure about its actual price, I quickly responded, â€Å"twelve thousand dollars.† The customer turned his face looked straight in to my eyes, as if to confirm if I was sure. Glancing back at him, I affirmed my confidence. The other range of the costs displayed on the shelf guided my advice. I went on to explain the features of the ring and how genuine it was, convincing him to buy the ring from us. He finally bought the ring, making me feel happy that I had made a great sale. As the customer left, my bossed immediately walked in. Curious to know what I had sold and how much I had sold it, she came straight to the counter and checked the receipt book. It later turned out that the diamond ring was marked up at twenty five thousand dollars. I could not explain myself, and for the first time in my life hated myself for making such an assumption. Three week later, I received a letter of dismissal quoting a ‘recent event’ a proof of my incompetence. The Standards of Critical Thinking: analysis of my decision Some people, if in a similar situation as I was in, could have chosen to do exactly as I did and committed the same mistake that I made. Being new and enthusiastic to build oneself a name in new work environment, one would hastily use any given opportunity at the expense of other interests of the business. The standards of critical thinking requires one to be accurate, precise, relevant, logical, fair, clear, and deep in thought and decisions making. The absence of any one of these standards weakens the critical thinking process and eventually resulting a poor decision making (Bassham, Irwin, Nardone, and Wallace 11). In my decision described above, which actually was founded on a serious assumption, the greatest barrier to critically thinking and decision making processes was lacking in accuracy, fairness, logic, clarity and depth. I assumed that because the diamond ring was removed from near others with price tags of twelve thousand dollar, the ring must cost the same. Even without involving efforts to confirm from colleagues, or my boss or in even in the neighboring shop I went ahead and sold the ring at half the price (Chaffee 52). I did not involve any critical thinking skill at all, and I ended up making a poor and a costly decision. At that moment, I felt great because of an imagined achievement. The decisions cost my first job leave a lone a loss of thirteen thousand dollars to the business in one day. This kind of situation happens every day to people. Many have at least at one point in time been victims of careless or weak decision making resulting from lack of critically thinking. Today I appreciate the doctrine of critical thinking. Shylocks daughter Jessica elopes with Lorenzo who is a Christian. Shylock is furious and very sad at this because marrying out of the faith was a dreadful thing to do. Although Jessica was unhappy at home their relationship in the play is emphasised by them singing a Jewish song together before she elopes. Despite the strong ties of religion and duty to a father Jessica elopes with Lorenzo and converts to Christianity. This is a big step for her, and must have taken some thought from her to do this. Nowadays certain strict religions e. . Muslim, orthodox Jews still forbid marrying out of their faith. Jessica would probably suffer the same fate today as she did then which was never to see her family again. The end of the play was interesting, because after seeing theatre and videotapes of performance I prefer the theatre production in which Jessica was left humming in the spot light the Jewish song she sang with her father, this meant that she did still have some feelings for him. The Merchant of Venice was set as a comedy but when reading it I didnt find it funny, I think this is because I didnt understand the humour. When we read through the play at school I found it long and tedious, but watching the play at the theatre helped me to understand the subtleties of the humour. When I watched the play I found the actors/actresses enthusiasm brought the script to life and I understood and laughed more at the humour, which made it more interesting and enjoyable. When reading the play, I didnt think it was one of Shakespeares finest plays but when I went to the theatre it was a full house. I think that by adding comedy to the play makes it livelier. The merchant of Venice shows a modern audience that the themes in the play are as relative today as it was then. How love can or cannot be mistaken, how greed motivates peoples actions, how true friendship is worth more than money and how racism affects society. Although it was set about 400 years ago, it shows how little the differences in society and religion have changed. I think that the Merchant of Venice portrays the problems generated by greed, racism and revenge. I also think that because of the amount of racism in it, it could influence the younger audience.
